48Gbps Gigabits Per Second is how much audio/video information can transported through HDMI 2.1. The new gaming consoles are able to send upto 40Gbps of data via it’s HDMI 2.1 socket to an HDMI 2.1 ready TV. With HDMI 2.1 being able to transport 48Gbps indicates it will handle anything the new consoles will be able to throw at it. This more than doubles the previous generation HDMI 2.0 which was able to carry 18Gbps of data.

The huge bandwidth allows for 120 frames per second to be transported and displayed on screen. When gaming this will result in smoother game play, a sharper and less blurry image. The ability to produce 8k/60 fps or 4k/120 fps with full high dynamic range (HDR). PS5 and Xbox Series are capable outputting these resolutions although we’re not anticipating 8k games anytime soon.
